GIANY [Greek Institute of Architects in New York] was established with the purpose of bringing together the Greek Architects and Designers that live and practice in New York. Through lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions and social events, GIANY wishes to play a central role within the Greek architectural community in New York as a platform for sharing architectural ideas, strengthening its members’ professional voices and acting as a social initiative. GIANY was founded in December 2013.

Kyriaki Goti studied architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and received an MSc from the Institute for Computational Design (ICD) at the University of Stuttgart. She is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute and founder of the award-winning design and innovation studio SomePeople based in NYC.
George Kontaroudis studied at the Hull School of Architecture and the Bartlett School of Architecture in the UK. He has practiced as an architect and urban designer in Greece, the Middle East and the US. He currently works as a project manager at Morris Adjmi Architects in New York and focuses primarily on sustainability.
Yannis Orfanos studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and received a Master’s degree from the AA Design Research Lab. His work focused on spaces, tech, and systems. Yannis has worked as a researcher at Harvard and MIT, and currently leads the Systems & Insights operations for US East at WeWork.
Pinelopi Papadimitraki holds a diploma in architecture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a dual Masters in media and architecture from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the University at Buffalo (SUNY). Her design and research work has been exhibited and published internationally. She is currently based in Athens and New York.
Fani Christina Papadopoulou is a Greek architect based in New York, where she currently practices at 1100 Architect, leading the design of several architectural scales and typologies. She received her M.Arch.II degree from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design after her 5-year Master’s degree studies at the National Technical University of Athens.
Despo Thoma is a New York-based / Cyprus-born architect and urban designer, focusing on resilience, urban storytelling, and engagement by design. Thoma holds a degree in Architecture from the National Technical University of Athens and a M.Sc. in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University as a Fulbright Fellow. Currently, Thoma is acting as Designer / Project Manager for ONE Architecture & Urbanism.
Konstantina Tzemou is an architect and urban designer based in NYC. She holds a Master’s degree in Urban Design from Harvard University and a 5-year Diploma in Architecture from University of Patras, Greece. Konstantina’s professional experience includes collaborations in Athens, Paris and NYC where she currently practices within AECOM Technology Corporation.
Athina Zafeiropoulou is practicing as an architect and landscape designer. Athina received her Master's degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture in 2015 after earning a dual Diploma in Landscape Engineering and Architecture from the University of Athens. She has worked in award winning architectural firms in Athens, London and New York and is currently an architect for Fogarty Finger Architecture, leading residential projects based in New York City.
GIANY Founding Members
Constantine Bouras studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and received a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He has worked in architectural firms in Athens, Milan and New York and is currently a project architect at Leroy Street Studio.
Evita Fanou holds a Ms.AAD from Columbia University after graduating from the Aristotle University in Greece. She has been awarded prizes and honorable mentions in International and European architectural competitions and has taught studios and seminars at Parsons, the New School of Design, and New York City College of Technology.
Electra Kontoroupi holds a Masters in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University after having previously completed her Architectural Diploma at the National Technical University of Athens. She focuses on the design of art fairs, art exhibitions and galleries. She currently works at studioMDA | New York.
Ioannis Oikonomou is an architect urbanist who studied at the Polytechnic School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the National Technical University in Athens. He has established the award winning oiio Architecture Studio, based in Athens and New York, which has received six international design competition prizes.
Foteinos Soulos graduated from University of Patras where he did his undergrad and from Columbia University of New York with a Master degree in advanced architectural design, with a scholarship provided by the Mentzelopoulos foundation. He currently works at SHoP Architects as Senior Associate.
Dimitra Tsachrelia received her Ms.AAD from Columbia University, where she was awarded the Honor Award for Excellence in Design after receiving her Diploma in Architecture from the Patras University School of Architecture in Greece. She is an Associate Architect at Steven Holl Architects.
